How to Become a Sponsor?

What is it?

Becomng a sponsor is the most direct and bonding way to help people in Beslan.

How does it work?

You will pick the family or a child to support and you will be sending the money yourself directly to the family of your choice and nobody else. No intermediates or distribution agencies will be involved. The amount of help and type of support would be your choice.

Why should I sponsor?

Although people all over the world had donated sizable amounts of money to Beslan this money does not always reach the intended recipients at this time. The reasons for this is unclear. Many of the charities funds are claiming that distribution is not possible until all victims are accounted for – as many victims are now being identified by DNA, this could take some time.

We understand that, if the distribution is being hampered to ensure the validity of the claims, this must be done. However, the victims need both financial and emotional support now, more than ever. They need you as their sponsor, their extended family, their friend, their Big Brother or Sister.

Is this all about money?

No. And we like to emphasize it.

Sponsoring is more than just financial assistance – it is a meaningful route to touch another person’s life, show that you care, communicate your compassion and hope. Our existing sponsors have chosen this route as an immediate action to make a difference in the devastated lives of these children and adult victims.

Your cards, and letters and small gifts of support are as important as so important monetary donations. We will help you in communication with your sponsored family (providing translation services if needed) to ensure that you are getting feedback about your support.

I think this is for me. How can I start?

Here are the steps for you to follow:

• Review the list and choose a child/family in need from the List of Orphans.
• Contact us to obtain information about the family you selected.
• We will contact the family first to learn more about their case and current specific needs and to ease your introduction as a sponsor.

How I will keep in touch with the family I sponsor.

It is up to you. Depends on the situation you can call them or write letters. We will help you in communication with your sponsored family to ensure that you are getting feedback about your support.

What about the "Donate" button on this web site?

"Donate" button is only for those who like to help people in Beslan but don't know which family or child to choose. We choose for them. Also, contributions sent through "Donate" button are tax deductible. Please read more about it here.

Will I receive a tax receipt for the support I provide?

No. Unfortunately, according to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Registered Charities and the Income Tax Act, a charity may not issue an official receipt for income tax purposes if the donor has directed the charity to give the funds to specified person or family.

I need a tax receipt. Is there a way for me to help Beslan and have a receipt?
